PD Dr. Giulia Pelillo is Head of the Research Area Cultural Studies at the Diplomatische Akademie Wien – Vienna School of International Studies. Her work focuses on the role of culture in shaping inter- and transnational relations in both cooperation initiatives and conflicts and culture wars. Thematically, her work addresses multilingualism in media and institutions, the politics of identity and diversity, the negotiation of cultural heritage, and transformations of public spheres. From a theoretical perspective, she develops approaches that move beyond methodological nationalism and explore culture across and beyond national frameworks. She is a founding member and Vice-Chair of the Kulturwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft, where she co-chairs the “Transcultural Life-Worlds” section and co-edits the society’s book series.
