LACUNAS – A new podcast on science, diplomacy and culture

We are pleased to announce the launch of LACUNAS, a new podcast at the intersection of science, diplomacy and culture. With its first episode released today, the podcast opens a space for reflecting on how these fields interact and shape contemporary societies.

We know that culture can divide, but it can connect even more. It provides orientation, shapes the facets of life, and influences the ways we act and make decisions. Political culture and identity determine where we go as a society, while the ability to overcome boundaries remains one of culture’s defining strengths.

Diplomacy is now rediscovering this power. Alongside science and technology, cultural points of reference are becoming increasingly important for diplomats. No longer just “soft power”, culture is a vehicle for building bridges, thinking about issues in a multi-layered way and shedding new light on them through the language of art.

LACUNAS brings these dimensions together. The podcast combines science and diplomacy with culture and illuminates the spaces in-between. It fills the gaps — the lacunas — and thus opens up new perspectives and ways of listening.

LACUNAS is a project of the University Krems within the framework of the Science Diplomacy and Culture section of the European Union Science Diplomacy Alliance.

The first episode of LACUNAS explores what science and cultural diplomacy can achieve and what significance they hold today.
