Global Ministerial Dialogue on Science Diplomacy – Science diplomacy in a rapidly changing world: Building peace in the minds of men and women

On 25th and 26th March 2025, Christina Hainzl Head of Research Lab Society in Transition / SDGs at the University for Continuing Education Krems, attended The Global Ministerial Dialogue on Science Diplomacy at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. This event brought together ministers, diplomats, scientists, and experts to deliberate on establishing a new global framework for science diplomacy aimed at addressing pressing societal challenges.

During the UNESCO dialogue in Paris, discussions focused on enhancing the interface between science and diplomacy. The conference culminated in the adoption of a joint Ministerial Statement, reaffirming the necessity to strengthen the connection between science and diplomacy and to invest in science diplomacy for identifying joint solutions to contemporary complex challenges.

Christina’s participation in Paris continues the Lab’s work in strengthening science diplomacy in a regional context, beginning by co-hosting the inaugural Conference on Science Diplomacy in Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe last year in Trieste and more recently a workshop on The Role of Science Diplomacy in Water Supplies in Venice.

The 2nd Conference in the series, Science Diplomacy and Culture, will take place in December 2025 in Venice.
