HUMANITIES IN TRANSITION

We apply humanities and social science methods, theories and approaches to questions of conflict and environment and their representations in society, politics, culture, and the arts. Our specific themes within Humanities in Transition focus on: Conflicts and Visualisations, Climate Politics and Transformation, European Dis-/Orders.

Conflicts and Visualisations

We deal with the various aspects of visualisation of conflicts in democratic as well as authoritarian systems, with the role of (moving) images and monuments in wars, their impact and perception in the media, as well as their role in social and ecological challenges.

Climate Politics and Transformation

We analyze the political and socio-economic dimensions of climate change, focusing on governance, activism, and transformative policies that advance sustainable and equitable solutions for addressing the global climate crisis.

European Dis-/Orders

The project European Dis-/Orders aims to explore how concepts of order and disorder are used in crisis discourses and, from a theoretical perspective how they can be conceptually understood and examined through the lens of research and art.
